
Glide remains one of the clearest ways to turn structured data into a polished business app. Switch only after identifying the real constraint. It may be spreadsheet rows, external updates, relationships, workflow rules, permission boundaries, or who is allowed to change the live app. Each problem points to a different alternative.
Choose AppSheet for spreadsheet-connected field work and offline operation. Choose Softr for a portal or data-backed web app. Choose Bubble for broader visual application behaviour. Choose Budibase when open-source or self-hosted operation matters. Choose KasiLabs when the people who own the workflow need to shape it in plain language while private review and release approval remain explicit.
First, identify which Glide you are evaluating
Glide currently has more than one public pricing surface. Its Classic-plan help page, updated in March 2026, lists Free, Explorer, Maker, Business, and Enterprise. The newer GlideOS page lists a separate Free, Solo, Team, and Enterprise model and says GlideOS requires its own subscription. The public pricing page did not establish a migration method, so ask Glide which path applies to your app before treating either pricing surface as the basis for a switch. GlideOS pricing
Record the product generation, billing cadence, user definition, update allowance, and data-source limits before comparing. A generic statement such as “Glide costs $X” is no longer sufficient.
For reference, the current Classic Business help article lists $199 per month on annual billing or $249 monthly, 30 included business-email users, 5,000 updates per month, 25,000 spreadsheet rows per app, and up to 100,000 Big Table rows. Verify those figures in the account because GlideOS and legacy entitlements can change the applicable model.
Six questions reveal the real constraint
Use one field-service workflow. A customer has sites. Each site has jobs. A job has visits. Technicians see only assigned visits, upload completion evidence, and record a failed-visit reason. A supervisor approves completion. Cost fields remain restricted. Outside systems update customer and invoice status.
Now ask:

Do not label the result “too complex for Glide.” Name the failed test.
Stay with Glide when the app is still data-centred
Glide supports more than spreadsheet display. Current Business documentation includes workflows, Glide API, Call API, third-party integrations, Glide Tables, Big Tables, spreadsheet data sources, and user allowances. Enterprise adds SQL, BigQuery, high-scale data, SSO, and dedicated support according to the plan help page. Glide plan help
Stay when:
- the record structure maps cleanly to Glide data;
- role and row-owner rules pass an access test;
- update volume fits the plan or has an acceptable overage;
- the team can maintain computed columns and workflows;
- Glide's responsive interface and templates accelerate the real job;
- the product generation and migration path are understood.
If row volume is the only problem, test Big Tables or an Enterprise source before rebuilding the application. If updates are the issue, inspect which external changes are necessary and which are duplicate synchronization.
AppSheet for offline, spreadsheet-connected field work
AppSheet is the first alternative to evaluate when technicians need offline operation, forms, photos, signatures, location capture, and spreadsheet-connected data. Its current public prices are $5 per user per month for Starter, $10 for Core, and $20 for Enterprise Plus. Choose it when Google Workspace administration and offline field use outweigh visual flexibility. Test synchronization conflicts, device/guest-user counting, and the exact data permissions before switching.
Softr for a portal or data-backed web app
Softr is a closer fit when the desired result is a staff, client, partner, or vendor portal. It prices annual plans by app users, database records, workflow actions, and plan features. Professional is currently $139 per month for 100 app users, 500,000 workspace records, 10,000 workflow actions, and custom user groups. Softr pricing
Choose it when the app can be expressed through supported data sources, blocks, forms, workflows, and user groups. This changes Glide's update/row question into Softr's user/record/action question; it does not remove limits.
Bubble for broader application behaviour
Bubble is a visual application builder for teams that need more freedom over pages, workflows, database behaviour, and custom product experiences. Choose Bubble when someone can own both the build and workload optimization. It may better express a branching workflow but introduces a different technical and cost model from Glide.
Budibase when deployment control matters
Budibase offers managed cloud and a free self-hosted open-source edition. The self-hosted plan lists unlimited users, apps, automations, and actions, while cloud plans separate creators and end users. Budibase pricing
Choose it when deployment control, internal data sources, APIs, and extensibility justify technical ownership. A self-hosted licence does not operate itself; the organisation owns infrastructure, monitoring, backups, upgrades, and incidents.
KasiLabs when the workflow needs a controlled owner
KasiLabs is not a generic spreadsheet-to-app converter. The team can bring a spreadsheet as evidence of fields, records, and rules, but the product is the operating workflow around it: who owns the next action, which state is valid, what evidence is required, which role may see or approve the record, and who decides a changed version is ready.

For the field-service example, KasiLabs is strongest when:
- technicians, supervisors, and finance need distinct views and actions;
- a failed visit follows a deliberate exception path;
- evidence is required before supervisor approval;
- a changed rule must be tested privately;
- one person approves what goes live;
- optional paid services must stop at a chosen limit without disguising the app as “broken.”
KasiLabs does not claim offline operation, native app-store deployment, Glide import, Glide Big Table migration, code export, or identical templates and integrations. If offline field use is mandatory, AppSheet or another verified offline product may be the better choice.
Test the exception, not the demo
Run this sequence in Glide and every alternative:
- Dispatch a visit to one technician.
- Sign in as another technician and attempt to open it.
- Submit a failed visit with missing evidence.
- Reassign it and preserve the reason.
- Approve a completed visit while keeping cost fields restricted.
- Receive an external invoice-status update.
- Change the evidence rule in a non-live version.
- Have the named release owner approve or reject that change.
- Restore the earlier behaviour if the new rule fails.
Record which steps require a formula, computed column, automation, code, elevated account, vendor assistance, or manual workaround. Also record what happens offline and when a data/update allowance is exhausted.
The best platform is the one your actual owner can keep correct six months later.
The decision
Keep Glide when its data-centred model remains the fastest clear route from records to a working interface. Upgrade or redesign when row scale or update volume is the isolated problem.
Choose AppSheet for spreadsheet-connected offline field work. Choose Softr for a portal-shaped app. Choose Bubble for broader visual application logic with a capable builder. Choose Budibase when self-hosting and technical ownership are intentional.
Choose KasiLabs when the operating team must lead the software definition and the business wants private testing, explicit access, a named release decision, an earlier version, and controlled paid actions. Start with the exception that currently escapes into messages and manual follow-up.
