Contacts & Audiences

Import, organize, and manage your contacts and create groups for targeted messaging.

Overview

The Audience page lets you manage your contacts and organize them into groups. Groups are the building blocks for automation — when you schedule a broadcast, create an AI-personalized campaign, or set up a recurring message, you select which contact groups should receive it.

Open the Audience page from your instance sidebar.

Viewing your contacts

The contacts table shows everyone who has interacted with your WhatsApp number or been manually added. For each contact, you can see:

  • Name — The contact's name (from WhatsApp or manually entered)
  • Phone — Their phone number
  • Source — How the contact was added (see below)
  • Last contact — When they last sent or received a message

Contact sources

Each contact is tagged with how it was added to the platform:

SourceMeaning
WhatsApp (green)Automatically synced from WhatsApp conversations
Imported (blue)Uploaded via a file (Excel or CSV)
Manual (purple)Added individually through the platform
Mixed (amber)Exists from multiple sources

Use the search bar to find contacts by name or phone number.

Adding contacts

Upload from a file

  1. Choose the Upload Excel/CSV option
  2. Select your file — the platform accepts Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files
  3. The platform reads the phone numbers from your file and adds them to your contact list

Make sure your file has phone numbers in a clear column. Include the country code (e.g., 254 for Kenya).

Paste phone numbers

  1. Choose the Paste Numbers option
  2. Paste phone numbers into the text area, one number per line
  3. The platform counts the numbers and adds them to your contacts

Add a single contact

  1. Choose the Manual Entry option
  2. Enter the contact's details
  3. Save the contact

Creating groups

Groups let you organize contacts for targeted broadcasts and scheduled messages.

Creating a new group

  1. Click the Create Group button
  2. Enter a name for the group (e.g., "VIP Customers," "Nairobi Branch," "Newsletter Subscribers")
  3. Optionally add initial members
  4. Click Create

Adding contacts to a group

Select contacts from your contact list and add them to one or more groups. You can also manage group membership from the group view.

Group operations

  • View members — See all contacts in a group
  • Add or remove contacts — Edit group membership at any time
  • Transfer contacts — Move contacts between groups
  • Delete a group — Remove the group (contacts themselves are not deleted)

Using groups with scheduled messages

Groups are the building blocks for broadcast messages. When you create a scheduled message or broadcast:

  1. You compose your message
  2. You select one or more contact groups as recipients
  3. The platform sends the message to every member of the selected groups

This is covered in detail in Scheduling & Broadcasts.

The platform only shows groups you've created manually. Auto-synced WhatsApp groups are filtered out to prevent accidentally messaging groups you didn't intend to.

Bulk actions

You can select multiple contacts using checkboxes and perform bulk operations:

  • Delete selected contacts — Remove selected contacts from the platform
  • Add to group — Add selected contacts to an existing group
